What is the treatment for Tonsillitis?
Tonsillitis is primarily treated with antibiotics. Sometimes tonsils need to be removed (tonsillectomy), especially if the person has a severe or persistent infection. This procedure is performed under general anesthesia, and sometimes in a hospital setting, but can also be done as an office procedure. Oral medication for pain relief, oral antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are generally recommended for acute tonsilitis. There are tons of over-the-counter medicines as well as prescription drugs to help treat Tonsillitis. However, many people who suffer from recurrent episodes of Tonsillitis may benefit more from surgical removal of their tonsils known as a "tonsillectomy."
